Inuyama Castle

Inuyama Castle

Inuyama Castle (犬山城) is a historic castle located in the city of Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the oldest and most well-preserved castles in Japan, and is designated as a National Treasure of Japan.

The castle was built in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, a powerful samurai lord who controlled the region during the Sengoku period. Inuyama Castle was later taken over by the Naruse clan, who made extensive renovations and additions to the castle complex.

Today, Inuyama Castle is a popular tourist attraction and historical site. The castle is famous for its distinctive donjon, or central tower, which is one of only 12 original donjons still standing in Japan.

Visitors can explore the castle grounds and climb to the top of the donjon, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding city and countryside. The castle also features several exhibits and displays about the history and culture of the Inuyama region.

In addition to the castle, the surrounding area of Inuyama is also a popular destination for tourists. The city features several other historic sites and cultural attractions, such as the Urakuen Garden and the Meiji Mura open-air museum, which features a collection of historic buildings from the Meiji period (1868-1912).
