Hida Folk Village (飛騨の里), also known as Hida no Sato, is an open-air museum located in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing traditional rural architecture and way of life of the Hida region, which is known for its unique style of wooden architecture.
The museum features over 30 traditional thatched-roof farmhouses and other buildings, many of which date back to the Edo period (1603-1868). Visitors can explore the buildings and learn about the daily life and customs of the region’s rural communities, including farming, weaving, and woodworking.
The museum also hosts workshops and demonstrations where visitors can try their hand at traditional crafts such as weaving, papermaking, and woodworking. There are also opportunities to enjoy traditional local foods such as Hida beef, soba noodles, and sake.
One of the highlights of the museum is the annual Hida no Sato Light Festival, held every winter, where the buildings and grounds are illuminated with thousands of colorful lights, creating a magical and enchanting atmosphere.
