Sanmachi Suji (三町筋) is also a historic district located in the city of Takayama, in the mountainous region of Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The district is also known as Hida-Takayama’s Old Town, and it is a beautifully preserved area that dates back to the Edo period (1603-1868). Sanmachi Suji is characterized by its traditional architecture, with old wooden merchant houses, sake breweries, and shops lining the narrow streets.

Sanmachi Suji is divided into three streets: Kami-Ichino-machi, Kami-Nino-machi, and Kami-Sanno-machi, which are collectively known as the “Sanmachi Suji.” The area is famous for its well-preserved architecture, which includes many buildings designated as Important Cultural Properties.
