Katayamazu Onsen (片山津温泉) is a hot spring resort town located in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. It is known for its natural hot springs, which have been popular with visitors for over 800 years.
The town offers a variety of hot springs, from traditional Japanese-style baths to modern, luxury spa facilities. The hot springs are rich in minerals and are said to have various health benefits, such as improving circulation and relieving muscle and joint pain. Some of the popular hot springs in Katayamazu Onsen include the public bathhouses “Soyu” and “Machiyu.”
In addition to the hot springs, Katayamazu Onsen is known for its scenic beauty, with views of Lake Shibayama and the Hakusan Mountain Range. Visitors can enjoy boat tours on the lake, strolling or cycling along the lakeside promenade, or hiking on the nearby trails.
The town also features iconic landmarks like the Ukimido (floating shrine) on Lake Shibayama, the Aizenji Temple, a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan, and the modern Katayamazu Onsen Station with its footbath. One of the most recent attractions is the lakeside Soyu bathhouse, reopened in 2020 with a stunning open-air bath offering panoramic views of Lake Shibayama.
Visitors can savor local delicacies such as crab and sushi at the town’s numerous restaurants and find traditional crafts and locally made goods at souvenir shops.
