Wakura Onsen, located in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a hot spring resort renowned for its abundant hot springs and stunning ocean views. With a history dating back to the Nara period, it boasts over 1,200 years of tradition as one of Japan’s oldest hot spring resorts.

The sodium-calcium chloride hot springs are known for their ability to warm the body to its core and provide lasting warmth. They are said to offer various health benefits, including relief from nerve pain, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, movement paralysis, joint stiffness, bruises, sprains, chronic digestive problems, hemorrhoids, sensitivity to cold, post-illness recovery, fatigue, and overall health improvement.

The hot spring town offers a wide range of accommodations, from historic ryokan inns to modern hotels. Many ryokan feature open-air baths with ocean views, serving fresh local seafood and traditional Kaga cuisine.

Wakura Onsen also boasts various attractions, including Seirinji Temple, a national important cultural property, the communal bathhouse “Sōyu” restored in 2011, and “Yuttari Park,” a seaside park with footbaths and handbaths. The Notojima Bridge offers beautiful views and leads to Noto Island, home to the Notojima Aquarium where you can see whale sharks.

Throughout the year, Wakura Onsen hosts seasonal events like summer fireworks displays and “Yukimi-bune” (snow-viewing boat rides) in winter, providing entertainment for visitors year-round.
