Onioshidashi Park

Onioshidashi Park

Onioshidashi Park (鬼押出し園) is a scenic park located in Tsumagoi Village, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. The park is renowned for its unique rock formations, natural hot springs, and picturesque walking trails.

The park’s most striking feature is the Onioshidashi lava flow, formed by the eruption of Mount Asama in 1783. Over the centuries, wind and water have sculpted the lava into a series of dramatic rock formations that resemble the claws of a demon (“Oni” in Japanese), giving the park its name.

In addition to the rock formations, the park features several natural hot springs, a popular destination for visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. A scenic walking trail winds through the park, passing by the hot springs and offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and forests.

The park is also home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, including wildflowers, birds, and small mammals. Visitors can explore the park on foot or by bicycle, taking in the stunning natural scenery at their own pace.

Other notable attractions within Onioshidashi Park include the Asamayama Kannon-do, a Buddhist temple nestled amidst the lava field, and the Kanzo-ji Temple, which offers a tranquil atmosphere and scenic views. The Onioshidashi Highway, a 10km toll road, allows visitors to experience the unique landscape from the comfort of their car. The Volcano Museum provides educational exhibits on the history of Mount Asama’s eruptions and volcanic phenomena.

Adjacent to Onioshidashi Park is Asamaen Park, featuring an alpine botanical garden, walking trails, and a restaurant.
