Shiraito Falls (白糸の滝) is a beautiful waterfall located in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. “Shiraito” means “white threads” in Japanese, and the name is derived from the numerous thin streams of water that cascade down the 20-meter high and 150-meter wide cliff face. The falls are fed by the spring water from Mt. Fuji’s underground system, creating a mesmerizing curtain of water that shimmers in the sunlight.
Shiraito Falls is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and is located near the base of Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area around Shiraito Falls is a popular hiking spot, offering stunning views of Mount Fuji and the surrounding landscape.
The waterfall is easily accessible by car or bus and has a parking lot and rest area nearby for visitors. It was designated as a National Natural Monument in 1936 for its scenic beauty.
A short 5-minute walk from Shiraito Falls is another waterfall called Otodome Falls (音止めの滝). Unlike Shiraito Falls, Otodome Falls is a single stream of water, but it is still a sight to behold.
There are several other tourist attractions around Shiraito Falls, including Omiyokocho, a street lined with souvenir shops and restaurants, and Makaino Farm, where visitors can interact with animals and enjoy fresh dairy products.
