Kawazu Nanadaru (河津七滝) is a series of seven waterfalls located in the town of Kawazu on the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The area is renowned for its beautiful natural scenery, lush forests, and a 1 km hiking trail that meanders through the landscape, allowing visitors to experience the unique beauty of each waterfall.
The seven waterfalls are:
- Odaru Falls (大滝): The largest waterfall with a 30-meter drop. Visitors can get close to the basin and feel the refreshing spray.
- Deai-daru Falls (出合滝): Two streams meet to form this waterfall, considered a power spot for romantic luck.
- Shokei-daru Falls (初景滝): Often regarded as the most beautiful of the seven falls.
- Hebi-daru Falls (蛇滝): A narrow waterfall resembling a snake, hence its name.
- Ebi-daru Falls (海老滝): Named after the resemblance of its flow down the red rock face to a shrimp’s tail.
- Kama-daru Falls (釜滝): Named for its cauldron-like basin.
- Kani-daru Falls (蟹滝): The smallest waterfall, with crabs inhabiting the area around its basin.
The Kawazu Nanadaru Loop Bridge is another highlight, offering a bird’s-eye view of the falls. Visitors can enjoy other outdoor activities like fishing, kayaking, and camping, and relax in the nearby onsen (hot springs) or footbaths. The Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival, held in early spring, is another popular attraction, drawing visitors to admire the early-blooming cherry blossoms.
