Kakegawa Castle

Kakegawa (掛川) is a city located in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is situated on the eastern coast of Honshu island and is known for its historic castle, beautiful bird park, and thriving tea industry.

One of the main attractions in Kakegawa is Kakegawa Castle, which was originally built in the late 15th century. The castle features a reconstructed four-story tower and a well-preserved Edo-period palace, both of which are designated as Important Cultural Properties. Visitors can explore the castle’s interior and enjoy views of the surrounding landscape from the top of the tower.

Another popular attraction in Kakegawa is Kakegawa Kachoen, a unique bird park where visitors can interact with a wide variety of birds from around the world. The park features owls, parrots, penguins, flamingos, and many other species. Visitors can watch bird shows, feed the birds, and even hold some of them.

Kakegawa is also known for its deep-steamed tea production. Visitors can experience tea picking and participate in tea ceremonies at various locations throughout the city.
