Kakegawa Castle (掛川城) is a historic castle located in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The castle was built in the late 15th century by the Imagawa clan, a powerful samurai clan that controlled the region during the Sengoku period.
The castle was later taken over by Tokugawa Ieyasu, who made extensive renovations to the castle complex. During the Edo period, Kakegawa Castle served as an important military and administrative center, and the castle town grew into a prosperous commercial and cultural center.
Today, Kakegawa Castle is a popular tourist attraction and historical site. The castle grounds include several buildings, such as the main keep, the palace, and the watchtower, which have been reconstructed and restored over the years.
Visitors can explore the castle grounds and climb to the top of the main keep, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding city and countryside. The castle grounds also include a museum, which features exhibits about the history and culture of the Kakegawa region.
