The Yamanashi Prefectural Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center (山梨県立富士山世界遺産センター) is a facility established to showcase the cultural and natural values of Mt. Fuji from multiple perspectives. It opened on June 22, 2016, following the designation of Mt. Fuji as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2013.
The center offers exhibits that allow visitors to experience the relationship between Mt. Fuji’s nature and human interaction. A standout exhibit is the “Fugaku 360,” a 15-meter-long model of Mt. Fuji designed with washi paper. This model allows visitors to experience the changing seasons through beautiful lighting effects and sound, earning it the “Cool Japan Award 2017.”Additionally, the center provides a new kind of museum experience that blends digital and analog elements, allowing visitors to enjoy exhibits using free augmented reality headsets.
The center is equipped with universal design features, including wheelchair-accessible restrooms and ramps. It also offers extensive multilingual support, with signage available in English, Chinese, and Korean.
Regular events such as the “World Heritage Mt. Fuji Lecture” series and special exhibitions are held, offering opportunities to learn about the allure of Mt. Fuji through the latest research. In this way, the Yamanashi Prefectural Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center plays a crucial role in conveying the multifaceted charm of Mt. Fuji to visitors and preserving its value for future generations.
