Lake Saiko

Lake Saiko

Lake Saiko (西湖) is one of the five lakes that comprise the Fuji Five Lakes, located at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. It is the smallest of the five lakes, known for its natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere, and outdoor activities.

The lake is surrounded by lush forests, making it a popular destination for birdwatching and hiking. Visitors can rent paddleboats or kayaks to explore the lake’s shores, dotted with small islands and offering stunning views of Mt. Fuji.

While not directly on Lake Saiko, the nearby Aokigahara Jukai Forest, located between Lake Saiko and Lake Shojiko, is a popular attraction. Known for its natural beauty, the forest offers opportunities for hiking, camping, and exploration. Guided tours are available to explore lava caves and underground lakes within the forest.

Another popular attraction is Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba, a traditional Japanese village on the shores of Lake Saiko. This village was destroyed by a landslide caused by a typhoon in 1966 and has since been restored as a tourist spot. Visitors can experience traditional Japanese culture and crafts through thatched-roof houses, workshops, and museums.
