Kofu Castle

Kofu Castle

Kofu Castle (甲府城, Kōfu-jō) is a historic castle located in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. It was originally built in the late 16th century during the Sengoku period (Warring States period) by Takeda Shingen, a prominent feudal lord of the region. However, much of what remains today dates back to the Edo period (17th century) when it was reconstructed by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate.

The castle is situated on a hill overlooking the city of Kofu and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Its strategic location was key in controlling the region during the feudal era.

Today, Kofu Castle serves as a popular tourist destination and cultural landmark in Yamanashi Prefecture. Visitors can explore the castle grounds, learn about its history in the on-site museum, and enjoy the scenic views from the top of the hill.
