Nishizawa Keikoku (西沢渓谷), a breathtaking gorge located in the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, is a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The gorge is carved out by the crystal-clear waters of the Nishizawa River, which winds its way through the valley, creating a picturesque landscape of cascading waterfalls, moss-covered rocks, and towering cliffs adorned with lush vegetation.
The hiking trails in the gorge are well-maintained and offer various routes to suit different levels of fitness and experience. The most popular trail is a circular route of approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), which takes hikers past several waterfalls, including the iconic Nanatsugama-Godaisho Falls (七ツ釜五段の滝), a series of two distinct waterfalls: one with multiple cascading pools called “Nanatsugama” and another with five tiers called “Godaisho no Taki.” The trail also passes through the picturesque scenery of the gorge.
