Takeda Shrine (武田神社), also known as Takeda Jinja, is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Kofu in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The shrine is dedicated to the venerated warlord Takeda Shingen (武田信玄), a prominent figure in Japanese history who ruled Kai Province during the Sengoku period.
The shrine features a grand torii gate at the entrance, leading to a path lined with tall pine trees. The path culminates at the traditional Japanese-style main hall (Honden), which enshrines a statue of Takeda Shingen. The shrine’s Treasure Hall (宝物殿) exhibits artifacts related to Takeda Shingen and the history of the region, including armor, weapons, and documents.
One of the most notable events held at Takeda Shrine is the annual Shingen-ko Festival (信玄公祭り), which takes place in early April. The festival features a grand procession with over 1,000 participants dressed as samurai warriors, reenacting Takeda Shingen’s troops marching into battle. The festival also includes traditional Japanese music and dance performances, as well as various other events and activities.
While not as famous for its cherry blossoms as other locations, Takeda Shrine still boasts beautiful cherry trees that bloom in the spring, adding to the charm of the shrine grounds during the season.
