Ushitora Shrine (艮神社) is located in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. It is located on a hill overlooking the city and the Seto Inland Sea, with panoramic views and beautiful natural surroundings. The shrine is dedicated to the god of war and was founded in 806.
One of the main features of Ushitora Shrine is its three large camphor trees, each over 900 years old. They are designated as natural monuments of Hiroshima Prefecture.
The main shrine itself is also very impressive, with a unique architectural style that blends traditional Japanese and Chinese elements. The building is decorated with intricate carvings and ornaments and is surrounded by tranquil gardens and several smaller shrines.
Ushiho Shrine is a popular destination for tourists to Onomichi and is especially famous for its annual New Year’s celebration, where thousands of visitors climb the steps to the shrine to pray and enjoy panoramic views of the city and the sea.
