Shimane is known for its natural beauty, particularly its scenic coastlines, mountain ranges, and hot springs. One of the most famous landmarks in Shimane is the Izumo Taisha Shrine, which is one of the oldest and most important Shinto shrines in Japan. It is said to be the home of the gods and is dedicated to Okuninushi, a deity of nation-building, marriage, and medicine.

Other famous landmarks in Shimane include the Adachi Museum of Art, which houses a stunning collection of Japanese art and is surrounded by a beautiful garden, and Matsue Castle, a well-preserved feudal castle.

Shimane is also known for its traditional crafts, such as Iwami Kagura, a type of traditional dance that is performed in colorful costumes, and Izumo soba, a type of buckwheat noodle that is a local specialty.

In addition to its cultural attractions and traditional crafts, Shimane is home to several natural attractions, such as the Oki Islands, a group of remote islands that are known for their unique ecosystems and wildlife.
