Iwakuni Castle

Iwakuni Castle

Iwakuni Castle (岩国城) is a historic castle located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It was originally built in 1608 by the local daimyo (feudal lord) Kikkawa Hiroie, and was an important defensive stronghold during the Edo period (1603-1868).

The castle is located on a hill overlooking the Nishiki River, and its strategic location provided an important vantage point for defending the surrounding area. The castle was also used as a residence for the Kikkawa family, and features a number of beautiful gardens, living quarters, and defensive structures.

Today, only a few of the original structures remain, including the stone walls, keep, and moat. In 1962, however, the castle was rebuilt in reinforced concrete, and visitors can tour the museum and exhibition hall.

The castle is also known for its stunning views of the surrounding scenery, including the Nishiki River and Kintai-kyo Bridge. It is a popular destination for visitors who come to learn about Japanese history and culture, and to enjoy the beautiful gardens and views.
