Historical Village of Hokkaido (北海道開拓の村), also known as Kaitaku no Mura, is an open-air museum located in Sapporo, the largest city in Hokkaido, Japan. The museum showcases the life and culture of Hokkaido during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period of rapid modernization and industrialization.
The village is divided into four groups: Town, Fishing Village, Farming Village, and Mountain Village. There are more than 50 historical buildings, including houses, schools, churches, and post offices that were relocated from various parts of Hokkaido and restored to their original condition.
Visitors can explore the buildings and see how people lived and worked during the early days of Hokkaido’s settlement.
The village also has a steam locomotive and a horse-drawn tram that run on a track through the museum, offering visitors a unique way to experience the historic atmosphere.
In addition to the historic buildings, the museum also has a collection of artifacts, tools, and photographs that provide insight into Hokkaido’s history and culture.
