Meriken Park

Meriken Park (メリケンパーク) is a popular waterfront park located in the port area of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The park offers stunning views of the harbor, the city skyline, and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Meriken Park is the Kobe Port Tower (神戸ポートタワー), a 108-meter-tall red tower that stands as a symbol of the city. Visitors can take an elevator to the observation deck for a 360-degree panorama of Kobe and its surroundings.

Another prominent attraction in the park is the Kobe Maritime Museum (神戸海洋博物館), which showcases the history and development of Kobe’s port and maritime industries. The museum features various exhibits, including ship models, navigational instruments, and historical documents. It also offers a chance to explore retired ships and vessels, providing a hands-on experience of maritime technology.

Meriken Park is home to a number of monuments and sculptures, including the Kobe Port Opening Memorial (神戸開港記念碑), commemorating the opening of the port in 1868, and the “BE KOBE” monument, a popular photo spot for visitors. The park also features a large lawn area, a waterfront promenade, and a variety of shops and restaurants.
