Kashihara Shrine (橿原神宮), located in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, was founded in 1890 and is dedicated to Emperor Jinmu, the legendary first emperor of Japan, whose ascension to the throne is traditionally dated to 660 B.C. It is considered one of the most important shrines in Japan.
The shrine complex includes several buildings and structures, notably the main hall (honden), which was relocated from Kyoto Imperial Palace and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and the offering hall (haiden). The Bunka-den, also an Important Cultural Property, serves as a repository for artifacts related to the history and culture of Emperor Jinmu and the Kashihara area.
Kashihara Shrine is renowned for its beautiful natural surroundings, encompassing a vast 52.5-hectare precinct with walking trails, ponds, and a cherry blossom grove of approximately 160 Somei Yoshino trees that typically bloom in early April.
