Nyoirinji Temple

Nyoirinji

Nyoirinji Temple (如意輪寺) is a Buddhist temple located on Mount Yoshino in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It is known for its association with Emperor Go-Daigo, who established the Southern Court in Yoshino during the Nanboku-cho period (1336-1392). The temple served as a temporary palace and prayer hall for the emperor.

Nyoirinji Temple houses several cultural properties, including a statue of Nyoirin Kannon, the principal deity of the temple. The temple also features a beautiful garden, particularly stunning in spring with cherry blossoms and in autumn with colorful foliage.

Nyoirinji Temple is an extra temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage route and attracts many visitors, especially during the annual “Emperor Go-Daigo Festival” held in April.
