Kusatsu (草津) is a hot spring resort located in Gunma Prefecture, Japan, about 120 kilometers northwest of Tokyo. It is one of Japan’s most famous hot spring towns, known for its high-quality water and traditional Japanese atmosphere.
The hot springs at Kusatsu Onsen are fed by natural underground sources that bring water to the surface at temperatures of over 50 degrees Celsius. The water is said to have therapeutic properties and is believed to help alleviate various ailments such as rheumatism, neuralgia, and fatigue. Visitors can enjoy the hot springs at various public bathhouses and ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) throughout the town.
In addition to the hot springs, Kusatsu Onsen has several other attractions, including a historic street lined with traditional shops and restaurants, a park with walking trails and scenic views, and a museum that showcases the history and culture of the region.
