Mito

Mito (水戸) is a city located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, about 100 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. It is the capital city of Ibaraki Prefecture and is known for its historical significance, natural beauty, and cultural attractions.

One of the main attractions in Mito is the Kairakuen Garden, which is one of Japan’s three most famous landscape gardens. The garden features over 3,000 plum trees, making it a popular destination during the plum blossom season in late winter and early spring. Another popular attraction is the Kodokan, a martial arts school that was founded in Mito in the 19th century.

Mito is also known for its historical significance as the former capital of the Mito Domain during the Edo period from 1603 to 1868. The city is home to several historic sites related to this period, including the Mito Castle ruins, the Tokugawa Museum, and the Mito Komon Shrine.

In addition to its historical and cultural attractions, Mito is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, including Lake Senba, a popular spot for boating and fishing, and Mount Tsukuba, a popular hiking destination.
