Kamakura Daibutsu (鎌倉大仏), also known as the Great Buddha of Kamakura, is a large bronze statue formally known as the Amida Buddha statue located in Kamakura, Japan. The statue stands at approximately 11.3 meters tall and is one of the most iconic landmarks of Kamakura.
The statue was cast in 1252 and was originally housed in a large wooden temple, which was destroyed by natural disasters over the centuries. The statue underwent a major restoration after World War II and now stands in the open air, surrounded by beautiful gardens and trees.
Visitors can approach the statue, walk around it, and even enter its interior, admiring its impressive size and intricate details. The statue’s face is particularly detailed, with a serene expression and deep eyes that seem to look out over the surrounding area.
