Jomyoji Temple (浄妙寺) is a Zen Buddhist temple of the Rinzai sect located in Kamakura, Japan. It was founded in 1188 and is known for its historic buildings and beautiful gardens.
The temple features several buildings, including the main hall, the bell tower, and the abbot’s quarters. The main hall houses a statue of Shaka Nyorai, the historical Buddha.
The highlight of Jomyoji Temple is its stunning gardens, which include a traditional karesansui (dry landscape) garden, and a lush moss garden. The karesansui garden features carefully arranged rocks and gravel, with small islands of moss and trees scattered throughout. The garden is designed to create a sense of tranquility and harmony that is typical of Japanese Zen gardens.
In addition to the gardens, Jomyoji Temple also features a tea house called Kisenan (喜泉庵), where visitors can enjoy traditional Japanese tea and sweets while admiring the serene atmosphere of the temple.
