Utsunomiya

Utsunomiya (宇都宮) is the capital city of Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. It is located in the central part of the prefecture and is known for its rich cultural heritage, delicious cuisine, and beautiful natural scenery.

The city has a long and fascinating history, dating back to the Edo period (1603-1868) when it was a castle town and a center of trade and commerce. Today, visitors can explore the city’s historical sites, including the ruins of Utsunomiya Castle, which was built in the 16th century, and the Futaarayama Shrine, which dates back to the 8th century.

Utsunomiya is also known for its delicious cuisine, particularly gyoza, a type of Japanese dumpling that is said to have originated in the city. Visitors can try gyoza at one of the many restaurants in the city, including those in Kirasse (来らっせ), a food hall dedicated to the dish.

In addition to its cultural and culinary offerings, Utsunomiya is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, including the Nasu Highlands to the north and the Nikko National Park to the east. The city is also home to several parks and gardens, including the Utsunomiya City Botanical Garden and the Hachimanyama Park, which offer a chance to enjoy nature and the changing seasons.
