Kozushima

Kozushima (神津島), one of the islands of the Izu Archipelago, is located approximately 180 kilometers south of Tokyo. The island is a popular destination for tourists due to its abundant nature, beautiful scenery, and star-filled skies. In December 2020, Kozushima was designated as an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association, recognizing its efforts to preserve the night sky and reduce light pollution. Visitors can enjoy stargazing events and tours throughout the year.

A typical tourist attraction on Kozushima is the Cape Park (岬公園). The cape offers breathtaking views of the surrounding sea and the island’s unique landscape. Matsuwa Shrine (物忌奈命神社), located in the center of the island, is a beautiful shrine nestled in rich nature and is worth a visit.

Many people visit Kozushima to enjoy the pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters, perfect for snorkeling and diving. The island also boasts Mount Tenjo (天上山), a 572-meter tall mountain that offers stunning 360-degree panoramic views from its summit.

Visitors can savor fresh seafood, such as bonito and sardines, at the island’s restaurants and markets. After a day of exploring, they can unwind at the Kozushima Onsen Health Center (神津島温泉保養センター), which offers hot spring baths with ocean views.
