
The Former Residence of Hosokawa Gyobu (旧細川刑部邸) is a samurai residence located in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. It was the residence of Hosokawa Gyobu, the younger brother of Hosokawa Tadatoshi, the lord of the Kumamoto domain during the Edo period (1603-1867).
The residence was built in the late 17th century and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The residence consists of several buildings, including a large main house, a tea house called Kiyutei, and a garden.
Visitors can explore the various buildings and enjoy the traditional Japanese architecture and design. The garden is especially beautiful, with carefully manicured trees and shrubs, and a pond. Visitors can also experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony at Kiyutei.
