
Matsura Historical Museum (松浦史料博物館) is a history museum located in Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The museum was opened in 1955 and is housed in the Tsurugamine Residence, a former private residence of the Matsura clan built in 1893 and designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
The museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history and culture of the Matsura Clan, a powerful feudal clan that ruled the Hirado area for over 700 years and played a significant role in Japan’s history, including trade with the West and the spread of Christianity.
The museum’s collection includes a wide range of artifacts, documents, and other historical items related to the Matsura Clan and their contributions to the development of Hirado and Nagasaki Prefecture. Some of the highlights of the collection include samurai armor and weapons, traditional clothing, ceramics and pottery, maps, paintings, Noh masks and costumes, and other artifacts that offer a glimpse into the lives of the Matsura family and the people of Hirado.
