Yoshinogari Historical Park

Yoshinogari Park

Yoshinogari Historical Park (吉野ヶ里歴史公園) is an archaeological park located in Saga Prefecture, Japan. It covers an area of 117 hectares and contains the remains of a large Yayoi period settlement that existed from the 5th century BC to the 3rd century AD.

The site was discovered in 1989 during a preliminary survey for a land improvement project in the Yoshinogari Hills. Extensive excavations revealed a complex network of moats, earthen walls, and various buildings, as well as thousands of artifacts such as pottery, stone tools, and metal implements.

Visitors to Yoshinogari Historical Park can explore reconstructed buildings, including pit dwellings, raised-floor storehouses, watchtowers, and tombs, providing a glimpse into daily life during the Yayoi period. The park also features the Yoshinogari Historical Park visitor center, where visitors can learn about Yayoi culture and technology through displays of artifacts and interactive exhibits.

Yoshinogari Historical Park is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Japan and offers a unique opportunity to learn about the country’s ancient history. It is a popular destination for tourists and school trips, attracting visitors interested in archaeology and Japanese history.
