Kume Island

Kume Island (久米島) is a small island located in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, about 100 kilometers west of Okinawa Island. The island is known for its natural beauty, rich history, and unique culture.

One of the most popular attractions on Kume Island is Hatenohama Beach, a long stretch of white sand that can only be reached by boat. The beach is famous for its crystal-clear waters and the stunning views of the surrounding islands.

Kume Island is also home to several historic sites, including the Uezu Castle Ruins (宇江城城跡), which date back to the Ryukyu Kingdom era, and the Kumejima Tsumugi Village Yuimaru-kan (久米島紬の里ユイマール館), which showcases traditional Ryukyuan textiles.

The island’s unique culture is also evident in its traditional music and dance, which are performed at festivals and events throughout the year. The island is also known for its delicious local cuisine, including Kumejima beef, which is considered one of the best varieties of beef in Japan.

Outdoor enthusiasts will also find plenty to do on Kume Island, with several hiking trails that offer stunning views of the island’s rugged coastline and mountainous interior. The island’s crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkeling and diving, with many opportunities to explore the coral reefs and abundant marine life.
