Katsuren Castle

Katsuren Castle Ruins (勝連城跡), also known as Katsuren-jo, are the remains of a historic castle located on the Katsuren Peninsula in Uruma City, in the central part of Okinawa Island, Japan. Built in the late 13th century, it served as an important stronghold during the Ryukyu Kingdom period.

The castle ruins are situated on a hill overlooking the East China Sea, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Katsuren Castle is also known for its unique architecture, which features a blend of Chinese and Ryukyuan styles.

In 2000, Katsuren Castle Ruins were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with several other castles and fortifications in the Ryukyu Islands.
