Nakamura Residence

Nakamura Residence (中村家住宅) is a historical house located in Kitanakagusuku Village, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It is a well-preserved example of a traditional Okinawan house from the mid-18th century, which was the period of the Ryukyu Kingdom.

The Residence was originally built in the mid-18th century and underwent major restoration in the 1960s. The house features a unique architectural style that combines traditional Okinawan and Chinese elements, including a tiled roof, wooden beams, and shoji screens.

Today, the residence is open to the public, allowing visitors to learn about the daily life and customs of Okinawan people during the Ryukyu Kingdom period. The house features displays of furniture and household items, as well as a beautiful garden.

From Naha Airport:

• Take bus #111 (Highway Bus) towards Nago Bus Terminal
• Get off at a stop in Kitanakagusuku Village
• Journey time: Approximately 40-50 minutes

From Naha City:

• Take bus #120 (Nago west Airport Line) which passes through Kitanakagusuku Village
• Journey time: About 30-40 minutes from central Naha

By Car

From Naha:

• Take the Okinawa Expressway north
• Exit at Kitanakagusuku IC
• Follow local roads to the Nakamura Residence
• Journey time: About 30 minutes
