Iriomote Island

Iriomote Island

Iriomote Island (西表島) is the largest island in the Yaeyama Islands group, which is part of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. It is the largest and most remote island in the Yaeyama Islands, and is known for its dense jungle and abundant wildlife.

Iriomote Island is home to Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park, which covers most of the island and is one of the largest national parks in Japan. The park is home to numerous species of plants and animals, including the Iriomote wildcat, which is an endangered species found only on the island.

Visitors can explore the jungle by hiking, kayaking, or taking a guided river tour on the Nakama River, famous for its mangrove forests. The island is also known for its beautiful beaches, such as Hoshizuna Beach, which is famous for its star-shaped sand.

In addition to its natural attractions, Iriomote Island is also known for its local cuisine, such as Yaeyama soba noodles made from locally grown flour.
