Yonaguni Island (与那国島) is a small island located at the westernmost point of Japan, part of Okinawa Prefecture. It is situated about 110 kilometers southwest of Ishigaki Island, which is the nearest major island in Okinawa.
Yonaguni Island is known for its unique underwater rock formations, particularly the “Yonaguni Monument,” a massive rock formation that some believe to be a man-made structure. This has made the island a popular destination for divers and underwater archaeologists.
In addition to its underwater attractions, Yonaguni Island is also home to several beautiful beaches, such as Kubura Beach. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, swimming, and sunbathing on these beaches.
Yonaguni Island is also known for its traditional Okinawan culture. Visitors can experience local cuisine, music, and crafts at the island’s various cultural events and festivals, such as the Yonaguni Horse Festival held in April.
