Shikoku (四国) is the smallest of the four main islands of Japan, located to the south of Honshu Island and to the east of Kyushu island. It is made up of four prefectures: Ehime, Kagawa, Kochi, and Tokushima.
The name Shikoku means “four provinces”, reflecting the four ancient provinces that made up the island: Awa, Sanuki, Iyo, and Tosa. The island is famous for its beautiful natural scenery, pilgrimage routes, hot springs, and traditional crafts.
One of the most popular attractions in Shikoku is the 88 Temple Pilgrimage, a Buddhist pilgrimage that takes visitors to 88 temples across the island. The pilgrimage is said to have originated in the 8th century and is still practiced today by many people.
Another popular attraction is the Naruto whirlpools, which can be seen from the Naruto Strait Bridge or a boat tour. Shikoku is also known for its udon noodles, citrus fruits, and Kochi yuzu sake.
