Ehime Prefecture (愛媛県) is a prefecture located on the island of Shikoku, one of the four main islands of Japan. It is situated to the north of Kochi Prefecture and is bordered by the Seto Inland Sea to the south. The capital city is Matsuyama.
Ehime is known for its citrus fruit, particularly its mikans (mandarin oranges) and yuzu, which are often used as a seasoning in Japanese cuisine. The prefecture is also famous for its hot springs, including Dogo Onsen, one of the oldest hot springs in Japan and the inspiration for the bathhouse in the famous anime film “Spirited Away”.
Other famous landmarks in Ehime include Matsuyama Castle, a historic castle that is situated on a hill overlooking the city of Matsuyama, and the Shimanami Kaido, a scenic cycling route that crosses the Seto Inland Sea and connects Ehime Prefecture with Hiroshima Prefecture.
Ehime is also home to several unique festivals, including the Uwajima Bullfighting Festival, which features sumo-style matches between bulls, and the Yuzuki Festival, which celebrates the harvest of yuzu fruit and includes yuzu-themed food and drinks.
In addition to its citrus fruit, hot springs, and festivals, Ehime Prefecture is also known for its scenic beauty, including the stunning coastline and rugged mountains of the Shikoku Karst.
