Taga Shrine (多賀神社) is a Shinto shrine located in Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan. It is dedicated to Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto, the creator deities in Japanese mythology who are believed to provide good luck, longevity, good health, and fertility.
The shrine has a long history, with its origins dating back to the 6th century. It was originally located in the town of Taga but was moved to its current location in Uwajima during the Edo period. The current main hall of the shrine was built in 1878.
Taga Shrine is known for its annual Taga Matsuri, a traditional festival held in May. The festival features a parade of mikoshi (portable shrines), some of which are shaped like phalluses, representing fertility. There are also floats, music, and dance performances.
Visitors to Taga Shrine can also enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings, which include a forested hillside and a pond. The shrine is a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing in the spring and autumn foliage viewing in the fall.
