Oboke Gorge (大歩危) is a scenic gorge located in the western part of Tokushima Prefecture in Japan. It is situated in the Yoshino River Valley and is known for its steep cliffs, clear blue water, and beautiful natural scenery. The gorge is formed by the Oboke River, which flows through the surrounding mountains and valleys.
One of the main attractions of Oboke Gorge is a boat ride that takes visitors through the narrow, winding river, allowing them to appreciate the gorge’s dynamic landscape from the water. The boats are operated by skilled boatmen who expertly navigate the rapids and provide commentary about the local history and geography. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the stunning scenery of the gorge, including waterfalls, rock formations, and lush forests. There are two main boat tour operators, one departing from Obokekyo Mannaka and the other from the front of Oboke Station.
The Oboke area also offers various hiking trails. The Oboke and Koboke Walkway, an 8km trail connecting the two gorges, is a popular option, providing stunning views of the valley from a suspension bridge and several observation decks. In addition to this, there are other hiking trails around the Oboke Gorge that cater to different preferences and skill levels.
