Abukumado

Abukuma Cave is a limestone cave located in Tamura City, Fukushima Prefecture. Discovered in 1969, it features a 600-meter long tourist trail. Inside the cave, you can admire the natural beauty of various stalactite and stalagmite formations.

One of the highlights of Abukuma Cave is its diverse range of stalactites. Notable formations include the “Christmas Tree,” one of the largest stalagmites in Japan, and the rare boxwork formations. The cave is illuminated, creating a mystical atmosphere.

Abukuma Cave maintains a comfortable temperature year-round, cool in the summer and warm in the winter, making it an ideal destination for sightseeing throughout the year. The cave is equipped with stairs and pathways, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

The area surrounding Abukuma Cave offers restaurants, souvenir shops, and accommodations. Another attraction is the nearby “Irimizu Limestone Cave,” formed by the same water source as Abukuma Cave.
