Shioyasaki Lighthouse (塩屋崎灯台) is a historic lighthouse located in the city of Iwaki in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. The lighthouse was first built in 1899, and it was one of the first lighthouses in Japan to use a rotating light mechanism.
The lighthouse is situated on a rocky promontory 73 meters above sea level overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline and the ocean beyond. Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for even better views, and there is a small museum located at the base of the lighthouse that provides information on the history and technology of lighthouses.
Shioyasaki Lighthouse is an important symbol of maritime history and culture in Japan. The lighthouse is also known for its role in the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, when it was heavily damaged by the tsunami that followed the earthquake. The lighthouse has since been repaired and restored, and it remains an important landmark and tourist attraction in the region.
