Shiramizu Amidado

Shiramizu Amidado (白水阿弥陀堂) is a Buddhist temple located in the city of Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. It is considered one of the oldest and most important temples in the Tohoku region.

The temple was founded in 1160 and is known for its unique architecture and beautiful surroundings. The main hall of the temple, known as the “Amidado,” is a designated National Treasure of Japan and is one of the few remaining examples of Heian period architecture in the country.

The Amidado hall is made of wood and features a distinctive shingle roof (kokerabuki) and wooden pillars. Inside, there are several important Buddhist statues and artifacts, including a statue of Amida Buddha.

In addition to the Amidado hall, the temple also has a beautiful garden featuring a pond with islands and bridges, characteristic of Jodo (Pure Land) style gardens.

Shiramizu Amidado is a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims, who come to admire its beautiful architecture, serene garden, and learn about its rich history and cultural significance. The temple is also known for its beautiful cherry blossom trees, which bloom in the spring and attract visitors from all over Japan.
