Appi Kogen

Appi Kogen (安比高原) is a ski resort located in Hachimantai City in the northern part of Iwate Prefecture, Japan. It is known for its beautiful mountain scenery, excellent skiing and snowboarding conditions, and luxurious accommodations.

The ski resort features over 20 ski slopes, ranging from beginner to advanced levels, as well as several snow parks and areas for cross-country skiing. The resort also has a ski school and rental equipment services, making it accessible for both experienced skiers and those new to the sport.

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Appi Kogen offers a variety of other winter activities, such as snowshoeing, sledding, and hot springs. The resort is also known for its luxurious accommodations, which include hotels, condominiums, and private villas, as well as a variety of restaurants and shops.

During the summer months, Appi Kogen transforms into a scenic mountain resort, with hiking trails, mountain biking courses, and other outdoor activities. The resort also offers a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, including a spa, tennis courts, and a golf course.

Getting there

By Train

  1. Take the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Morioka Station (about 2.5 to 3 hours)
  2. From Morioka Station, choose one of the following:
  • Resort Shuttle Bus (about 50 minutes, 1,200 yen)
  • JR Hanawa Line to Appi-Kogen Station (about 50 minutes), then free shuttle bus to the resort

By Car

  • Rental cars are available
  • International driving permit required

Travel Time from Major Cities

  • From Tokyo: About 3 to 3.5 hours
  • From Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya: Transfer via Tokyo using Shinkansen
