Naruko Gorge (鳴子峡) is a scenic gorge located in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, renowned for its stunning autumn foliage and natural hot springs. It is situated in the Tohoku region, approximately 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Sendai.
The gorge stretches for approximately 2.5 kilometers and is formed by the Oya River, which flows through a narrow valley surrounded by steep cliffs covered in trees. In the autumn, the trees in the gorge transform into brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow, making it a popular destination for viewing autumn foliage. The best time to visit is typically in late October to early November.
Naruko Gorge is also famous for its hot springs, which are believed to have therapeutic properties due to their high mineral content. Visitors can enjoy a variety of hot spring baths, including outdoor baths with views of the surrounding mountains and forests.
In addition to the natural attractions, Naruko Gorge is also home to the Naruko Gorge Shrine, which is dedicated to the god of the gorge.
